On the rocks
On the rocks significa servir la bebida sobre hielo, normalmente en un vaso bajo (old fashioned / rocks glass). Se opone a straight up (colado y servido sin hielo, en copa).
Cuándo se elige
- On the rocks: cuando quieres que el trago se abra y suavice poco a poco (un whisky, un Negroni, un Old Fashioned).
- Straight up: cuando el cóctel se sirve muy frío y se bebe rápido (un Martini, un Daiquiri).
El detalle del hielo
En un buen on the rocks se usa un cubo grande de hielo: se derrite despacio y mantiene el trago frío sin aguarlo. Un garnish de piel de cítrico remata el aroma.
